HEHE ;) a bit too late to post things about Chinese New Year! Labels: Chinese New Year
It was New Year's Eve but there were neither celebrations in school nor early dismissal. I went to the shopping centre near my school to buy stationery with my best friend, Xiao Feng Zi*.
In the evening, my family and I went over to my paternal grandmother’s* house to have our annually reunion dinner.
At night when everyone was watching the Count Down on TV, we went to Chinatown. I enjoyed the moments being together with my parents and wondered what would happen to me if they were not by my side. It was best to treat them nicely everyday so that I would never regret in the future.
Just after 12 o’clock in the midnight, I SMS Xiao Feng Zi to wish her ‘Happy Chinese New Year!!!’ She replied me a quote that she had copied down from her previous SMS from her friend. She was so not creative at all!
*1)Xiao Feng Zi – my best friend’s nickname and it means that she’s a little crazy girl.
*2)paternal grandmother – the mother of one’s father, known as po po, nai nai or zu mu in Chinese.

The first day of Lunar New Year*, I was so busy choosing and changing clothes because I’ve had very few clothes in my cabinet.
Guess what?
My family was the latest to reach my maternal grandma’s* house!
In the end there’s not much food left…:(
After that, I went to my paternal grandma’s house to bai nian*.
*1)Lunar New Year – starts from the first day till the fifteenth of the first month in the lunar calendar, known as nong li xin nian in Chinese
*2)maternal grandma – the mother of one’s mother, known as wai po in Chinese or lao lao which is used mostly by the people in China.
*3)bai nian – pay a visit to one’s relatives with oranges on Chinese New Year, the children will get Angbaos (red packets) from the adults.
It was the second day of Lunar New Year, I went to visit my granduncle* in the hospital.
Poor thing…
It was considered very unlucky that we had to step into the hospital during the festival, however, we could not stop these unfortunate things from happening.
Thank goodness!
Granduncle recovered from his illness a few days later.
After that, instead of going home straight away, my family and I went to the Singapore River Hong Bao 2007* held at the Esplanade Park.
*1) granduncle – the brother of one’s grandparent and also the uncle of one’s parent (actually I’m not sure whether this word exists).
*2) Singapore River Hong Bao 2007 – a programme organized to celebrate Chinese New Year, known as chun dao he pan in Chinese.
